Schedule of events

Morning-afternoon. Science Laureates arrive in West Lafayette and check in at the Union Club.

At different points during the day, Purdue faculty hosts will meet Laureates at airports; teams of one or two scientists will welcome Laureates and start the relationship-building.

A complete transportation schedule will be available soon.

A USB "briefing stick" will be given to each Laureate to answer questions about Science Laureate Program logistics. Briefing sticks will also contain information about Purdue, the Colleges, Discovery Park, and other information we want to share with journalists.

Lunch Optional informal lunches for Laureates already on campus.

1:30 pm  Free time to schedule class visits, tours, or scientists visits
Choice of hands-on science experiences:

6:15 p.m. Laureates gather in the Union Club Hotel Lobby. Transportation to Burton Morgan provided by Lafayette Limo Services.

6:30 p.m. Opening event at Burton Morgan. Presentation of Science Laureate honors. Guests will include Laureates and Purdue leaders.

After dinner Laureates gather for refreshments at O'Bryan's Irish Pub. This is an optional activity for faculty hosts. Transportation will be provided for Laureates to O'Bryan's or the Union Club Hotel and provided by Lafayette Limo Services. Limo service concludes at 1:00 a.m.

 

Thursday, November 8, 2007

7:45 a.m. Purdue representatives and hosts will meet Laureates in the Union Club Hotel lobby and escort to the Lawson Computer Science Building.

8:00 a.m. Breakfast Lawson Computer Science Building, Room 3102. A memory stick "Purdue University Briefing Book" will be given to each Laureate.

8:30 a.m. Science Laureates meeting convenes. Brief welcome remarks from College of Science Dean Jeffrey Vitter. Laureates will then commence a private, Laureates-only discussion as part of their development of a global community model. Chairing the session will be Moira Gunn.

9:15 a.m. Leave for Town Hall meeting.

9:30 a.m. Town Hall meeting--Open session--Commons, with additional space in Room 1142, Lawson Computer Science Building--Moira Gunn will moderate.
Laureates and faculty discuss the future of publication of scientific research, speculate about the future dissemination of science knowledge in the Internet age, and grapple with other timely issues.

Confirmed faculty participants in the Town Hall will be determined. Live audiotaping of the Town Hall for National Public Radio's TechNation. Videotaping for podcasting. Overflow space will be provided.

11:15 a.m. Leave for Lecture Series at Buchanon by bus.

11:30 a.m. Lunch and Lecture Series with Steve Burrill—Buchanan Suite, Ross-Ade Stadium.  For more information on the Discovery Lecture Series, visit http://www.purdue.edu/dp/dls/.

1:00 p.m. Return to Lawson. Laureates will have a private meeting chaired by Moira Gunn.

3:00 p.m. University Convocation for the Purdue community - Open session – Lawson Commons. Delivery by Laureates of their 200 word statements about what they want to say to scientists. Immediately after ceremony, Laureates will meet and talk with the audience at an informal reception.

5:00 p.m. Optional informal meeting of Laureates in the East Faculty Lounge to recap Laureate discussion of the day.

5:45 p.m. Transportation from the Union Club Hotel Lobby to McGraws provided by Lafayette Limo Services.

6:30 p.m. Dinner--McGraws

After dinner Laureates gather for refreshments at O'Bryan's Irish Pub. Optional activity for all faculty hosts. Transportation provided to and from the Union Club by Lafayette Limo Services.

 

Friday, November 9

8:00 a.m. Breakfast in the Anniversary Drawing Room of the Purdue Memorial Union.


8:30 a.m. Science Laureates meeting reconvenes

10:30 Meet with Steve Burrill in WBAA Studio, Hall of Music


11:30 a.m. Free time to schedules class visits, tours or scientists visits --Hosts will be to escort Laureates.

This session allows informal visits with faculty you may have missed yesterday along with the following available opportunities for interaction:

6:00 p.m. Dinner with individual hosts (for those staying over for the football game)
